Feed Your Body Some Mind

From time to time, over the course of the next two months, we’ll be talking about the notion of Feeding Your Body Some Mind, which essentially means being smart about the foods you choose to put into your body, and the bodies of your family.  lovehealthyeatingOf course, you should always be feeding your body some mindful exercise too because, in the words of our favorite physicist, mathematician and forward thinker, Isaac Newton, “ A body in motion stays in motion, a body at rest, stays at rest.”

It’s interesting because the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s website www.choosemyplate.org is a site that’s, well, loaded with great information about food, nutrition, meal plans and the overall goodness of eating. In fact, there are so many online resources about smart eating, or as this blog calls it, Feeding Your Body Some Mind, that after a little research, we found more than 394,000,000 Google entries about nutrition with the following site claiming the number one spot, http://www.nutrition.gov/, and 270,000,000 Google references to healthy recipes, and 41, 600,000 Google results for nutritious potato recipes with this site securing the top position, http://www.cookinglight.com/food/recipe-finder/healthy-potato-recipes-00412000074324/.  Oh, and yes, there are 524,000,000 Google entries about exercise.

So, the information about healthy eating, about nutrition, and about exercise is all around us. Let’s play this informal game. The first healthy potato recipe to be listed on Google on Friday, October 25 was this, http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/home-fries-50400000119692/ for some tasty home fries, but Google being Google, it might be something different this week, and that’s okay because there probably isn’t a vegetable more diverse and more flexible than potatoes for you and your family. Google healthy potato recipes this week and see what pops-up.

And talking about flexibility, this video from 1944 by the Ross Sisters called Solid Potato Salad  is a “must see.” In fact, it’s absolutely incredible; perhaps a spoon full of potato salad a day can make you and your family this flexible. Talk about Feeding Your Body Some Mind. Wow!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mVpGmoES3w.
